But Epic Games the creators of Fortnite issued a statement in which they stressed they have a zero tolerance policy on the issue of cheating in the game.

When people use aimbots or other cheat technologies to gain an unfair advantage, they ruin games for people who are playing fairly, they said.

Jarvis also tweeted an apology, saying: Im going to take accountability for my actions and I understand completely why this has happened, I just wish I had known how severe the consequences were at the time and I would have never thought about doing it.

Jarvis fans have shared their frustration online, saying the YouTuber should not have received such a tough sanction.

Users have used the hashtag FreeJarvis on Twitter, with many saying action was necessary but a permanent ban is too extreme, while others have pointed out other incidents of cheating have not had such tough punishment.

Earlier this year, two players known as Xxif and Ronaldo were caught cheating during the Fortnite World Cup online qualifiers and were banned for two weeks.
